You know Nicholas Thompson as the CEO of The Atlantic and one of the foremost voices on technology in our evolving world. But you probably didn’t know Nick is also one of the best age-ranked distance runners in the world.
His latest book, The Running Ground, is a fantastic exploration of the intersections between running, work, and life told against the backdrop of Nick’s own emergence as a world-class runner and his intense relationship with his late-father.
How does Nick stay motivated to train for ultramarathons amidst everything on his plate? What has running taught him about professional success? What happened when he was kidnapped in Morocco?! These are just a few of the questions we dive into.
Those who know me know that running was a large part of my life — that’s been absent for the past six years due to injury. Whenever Nick and I get together, it motivates me to treat my injuries so I can lace up again. So I absolutely loved this conversation with Nick and loved the book just as much. Apologies for my haircut.
That’s it for this edition - please reach out if I can be at all helpful.
